Going back to Mississippi for a week to find something I lost. (10-15-09)

I am wrapped up in school again, trying to accomplish what I need. I do not know how much I will be here from now on, things seem to gather in corners and leap out all at once. I think those things are called life.

I do wish everyone the best of all worlds.

I dawned a mask today
it was one of porcelain powder
with shades of pink
I touched lace today
it was brushed against my face
and without disgrace I slipped it on
I wore my feelings today
on my cuff outside so the world could see
what has happened to me
and with all that stared
I walked as if I dared
to be what is me.

Shannon said I couldn’t fly
I set out to prove her wrong
Dawned my wings
Took that first step
On the bottom of the ladder
That led up the side of the water tower
Out on Harpers Road

Each time my foot moved up
I followed it with the next
Wasn’t long the wind was free
The smell was of fresh rusted metal
My sight rested on the birds’ way overhead
At the very top I held tight and turned
I forced myself to breathe
There below me the tree tops
Out, way out the sky, the wind
The birds
I took to wing
Felt the wind on my face
It’s sound whispering in my ears
And I flew…
